He text me last minute saying he was heading into London, and could I possibly come meet him? I wasn’t a very impulsive person at that point, having crept back into my shell for a while (it felt safer)
But he was sweet and smart and funny, and I was intrigued so I got dressed and ran to the train station.

I did my make up on the train and when three ladies across from me caught my eye I said ‘There’s a boyyyy’ and they all laughed and nodded knowingly.

We met at Aldgate East and he smiled at me as I came through the barrier. (So began the heart palpitations) 

We went to 93 Feet East in Brick Lane and watched his friends band play (the reason for him having come) and during one of the last songs he leaned in and gave me a tiny peck on the lips. We both tasted like Red Stripe. I remember being disappointed he hadn’t kissed me properly.

We left the gig and his friends, and headed to Marylebone via the underground so I could go home. He escorted me like the perfect gentlemen.
When we got to Marylebone, I didn’t want to get on the train until it was absolutely vital (the last train of the night)
So instead we walked out of the station and found a little private residents garden, all fenced in.

I climbed the fence and he followed suit (I inadvertently bruised my shin, but kept schtum at the time!) and we sat in this little quiet night time garden. We talked and talked and talked, hungry for each others words.

Then we kissed. Laying on the dewy wet grass in the middle of Marylebone, completely hidden from the outside world, with the sky a polluted foggy orange.

When I finally got on the train I was smiling ear to ear…then he called me and we talked another two hours or so until we both got home. 

It was the most spontaneous, romantic, sweetest date I’d ever experienced.

Which is one of the reasons why I still go on dates with him now ;-)
